Pros and Cons of a Doorless Shower

Doorless showers are increasingly popular in home design, as they give the impression of more space, are practical and easy to maintain, and can be used as walk-through areas when the shower is not in use. Before choosing this type of shower, read the following list of pros and cons, and decide if it’s fit for your home and habits.

What Is a Doorless Shower?

The definition of a doorless shower is simple: you don’t have to step over or step up to get in it. It’s an open space that you can just walk-in. But this doesn’t mean that it’s just a shower installed in the corner of your bathroom. It can still have glass walls, an enclosure alcove, or other separators that will keep your bathroom from getting too wet when you are showering.

Pros of a Doorless Shower

Here are some of the pros when considering what’s best for you:

  • It’s Easy to Integrate It in the Structure of Your Home – A doorless shower is easier to build in any bathroom, as it can be easily adapted to the structure of the room. There are many solutions available, even if your bathroom is small and has an atypical layout.
  • It Gives You More Space in the Bathroom – A doorless shower will provide more space, which is ideal if your house is not so big or if you prefer an open, spacious design overall.
  • It’s More Comfortable – A walk-in shower is more comfortable, as you’re not crowded when you shower, and it’s easy to get in and get out of it. This can be particularly useful for people with limited mobility.
  • Easier Maintenance – Compared to an enclosed shower, it’s easier to clean and maintain.

Cons of a Doorless Shower

Here are some of the cons to consider when deciding whether or nor you want a doorless shower in your bathroom:

  • It doesn’t Provide As Much Privacy As an Enclosed Shower – If privacy is important in your household and more people are using the bathroom simultaneously, an enclosed shower might be a better option. But before you dismiss the idea of a doorless shower, know that you can install opaque windows or curtains.
  • You Can Have Splashing in the Rest of the Bathroom – With a doorless shower, there will be some splashing, but a well-constructed drain should take care of the problem.
  • It Creates Moisture in the Entire Room – When you shower in a doorless shower, moisture will get to the rest of the bathroom, too. Installing a ventilator will take care of the problem.
  • It Could Increase the Risk of Slip and Falls – With all the splashing and open space showering, there might be an increased risk of slipping and falling. Ensuring you clear the excess water from the floor after every shower should keep your bathroom safe to use.
